Performs experimental and computational modeling research in the fields of welding metallurgy with focus on stress relief and stress relaxation cracking, including weldability evaluation and service performance of welds in advanced alloys, alloy development and compositional optimization; applies computational modeling and experimentation for quantification of materials properties related to weldability; applies experimentation and advanced characterization to validate computational  model predictions; publishes relevant research findings in scholarly journals and prepares presentations for academic and technical conferences; writes technical reports to sponsors; prepares project proposals to federal institutions and industry sponsors; other duties as assigned.
