Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
JIFSAN, a joint program of the University of Maryland and the U.S. FDA, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate to collaborate with CFSAN FDA Scientists to participate in applied regulatory research for analytical method development and the implementation of mass spectrometry methods for non-targeted analysis endeavors.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Developing and optimizing NTA workflows using LC/HR-MS and various data analysis strategies to support food safety initiatives. (30%)
  • Evaluating NTA data collection and data processing protocols that can be utilized by FDA as well as external stakeholders to evaluate samples for potential compounds of concern. (30%)
  • Implementing NTA strategies on selected samples of interest. (20%)
  • Monitoring and ensuring instrument and data analysis performance using appropriate quality controls, as well as providing routine instrument maintenance and calibration. (10%)
  • Preparing manuscripts and presentations. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or equivalent related field.
  • Experience with LC/HR-MS and/or data processing for NTA and the identification of unknown compounds.
  • Incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and experience of high-resolution mass spectrometry data collection, data handling, and data processing for small molecule analysis and identification of unknowns.
  • Incumbent must be able to operate and maintain a safe, accident-free laboratory environment, safely and properly operate specified laboratory instruments and equipment, and troubleshoot all equipment in the chemistry laboratory. 
  • Full professional proficiency in English, written and spoken, is required. 

Preferences:
Experience with or ability to conduct the following: Metabolomics, molecular networking, database/library curation, LC retention time prediction, semi-quantitation, Compound Discoverer node development/programming ability, and/or artificial intelligence/machine learning.
