Job Description

Description

Leidos currently has an opening for a Systems Engineer to support design, development, and implementation of space based sensors for our customers at Leidos' San Diego offices. As a Systems Engineer you will work closely with the Chief Engineer, Integration and Test Engineers, Signal Processing Engineers, and Software Engineers, to design, develop and implement capabilities for sensors used in Space.

The candidate will design space sensors utilizing MBSE Digital Engineering (DE) software applications to develop UML artifacts and collectively assist and describe MBSE sensor designs to the team of engineers, for the development of space sensor capabilities. Additional responsibilities include managing and employing System Engineering (SE) standard methodologies for the implementation of designed sensor components, designing MBSE models and artifacts, applying and executing SE processes and tools, to accomplish requirements analysis, problem diagnosis and solution design, integration and test preparation, risk assessment and mitigation planning, and related activities.

Primary Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for supporting Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) activities for space-related systems and sensors within a digital engineering environment. Primary responsibilities will include supporting requirements, decomposing high-level requirements, verification requirements management, integration and interface activities, documentation of design and development plans, decomposing and developing test requirements and technical performance metrics, and developing test artifacts for the execution of testing.

Some additional responsibilities of systems engineers include:

  • Work closely with the chief engineer, electrical engineers, signal processing, mechanical, and test engineers, to convey sensor design architectural details, software message interactions process flows, software architectural design layout, hardware placement design, and firmware control interfaces,
  • Understanding of requirements analysis, implementation planning, integration and test, documentation, deployment, and system assessment.
  • Understanding of MBSE Digital Engineering approach for systems planning, design, execution, and operations.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation and diagrams/models through use of MBSE tool.
  • Define and employ simulation, and parametric diagram, capabilities within the MBSE DE.
  • Understanding of processes for technical platforms, system specifications, interfaces and working parameters for hardware and/or software in the look.
  • Create meaningful entry/exit criteria for all technical reviews, and advocate for appropriate review artifacts, activities, documentation and stakeholder participation.
  • Monitor & report technical variances; facilitate resolution of technical issues and risks that adversely impact successful product delivery.

Basic Qualifications (Mandatory)

  • Familiarity with No-Magic's CAMEO Systems Modeler.
  • Must have experience with 1 or more of the following areas: Requirements Management, Activity or Sequence Diagrams, Interface Diagrams, Producing Document from CAMEO, Risk Identification and Mitigation, Supplier Management, Millstone Reviews/Meeting Support.
  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related engineering field and 3+ years of prior relevant experience or M.S. degree with relevant experience.
  • Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance.
  • Working knowledge of C/C++/Java/Matlab/Python.
  • Experience developing test plans, evaluating test results, performing analysis, and writing technical reports.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Space based influences (e.g., curvature of the earth, clutter, etc) as it impacts sensor accuracies
  • Space based sensor accuracies (e.g. Stare, Bias errors, Line of Sight errors, 3D localization accuracies, etc)
  • Displayed ability in the modeling, design, assembly, integration, and test of complex systems
  • No-Magic's Cameo Systems Modeler
  • Understand and employ automated capabilities, including automated document generation, automated software stubs and skeleton capability, automated unit testing, and more.
  • Experience with embedded signal processing algorithms, simulations, models, and/or software for deployment.
  • Hands-on development of low-level embedded system software and device drivers
  • Strong understanding of radar theory and fundamentals with experience working in areas of radar modeling and simulation and/or algorithm development
