This is where your legacy begins! The Leidos Biological, Chemical and Materials Sciences Branch is currently looking for a motivated Chemistry Intern to work in our San Diego, California office. This is a highly dynamic and integrative environment in which talented and creative scientists can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects.

Primary Responsibilities

• You will work alongside and under the guidance of experienced scientists and will be part of a fast-paced multidisciplinary team at the forefront of innovation

• Assist in the execution of experiments involving development of inorganic materials and new organic ligand scaffolds

• Perform lab-scale synthesis, modification, purification, formulation, and characterization for biomaterials development

• Develop test methods and procedures for use in material characterization

• Analyze and interpret data independently based on critical thinking and the use of statistic tools.

• Document work and be able to communicate findings and reasoning with other team members

Basic Qualifications

• Currently a PhD student in an accredited degree program pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Materials, or closely related disciplines

• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment

• Great work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving

• Good presentation, writing and communication skills

• Ability to work at least 8 hours per week as a member of a cross-functional team

• Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• MS degree in Chemistry

• Strong publication record in peer review journals

• Experience with analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry (GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS), dynamic light scattering, column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, and microscopy (SEM, TEM, AFM, and/or STM).
